(1) The state fire marshal shall cooperate with the Department of Corrections in the development of fire safety regulations for jails and assist in the training of jail inspectors employed by the Department of Corrections. (2) Effective January 1, 1983, the Department of Corrections shall possess all authority and responsibility for fire prevention and reduction of loss by fire in jails as defined in KRS 441.005. Upon the request of the commissioner of the Department of Corrections, the state fire marshal shall investigate the cause and circumstances of fires or explosions in jails.
