A member of the Teachers' Retirement System who is in an active contributing status with th e system, and who was formerly employed in a regional community service program for mental health and individuals with an intellectual disability, organized and operated under the provisions of KRS 210.370 to 210.480, which does not participate in a state-administered retirement system, may obtain credit for the period of his or her service in the regional community program for mental health and individuals with an intellectual disability by paying to the Teachers' Retirement System the full actuarial cost of the service credit purchased, as provided in KRS 161.220(22). The service credit purchased may not be used for meeting the service requirements set forth in KRS 161.600(1)(a) or (2) or 161.661(1). The payment shall not be picked up, as described in KRS 161.540(2), and the entire payment shall be placed in the teachers' savings fund.
