As used in KRS 161.131 to 161.134 and KRS 157.395 and 161.123, unless the context otherwise requires: (1) "Mentor" means a highly skilled, experienced teacher who provides systematic and on-going support and assistance to other teachers in a school or scho ol district to help them improve their teaching skills and practices; (2) "National Board for Professional Teaching Standards" and "national board" means a nonpartisan, independent, and nonprofit board composed of teachers and others that has developed a s et of high and rigorous standards for accomplished teachers and that operates a national voluntary system to assess and certify teachers who meet their standards; and (3) "National board certification" means a demonstration by an experienced teacher of his or her teaching practice as measured against high and rigorous standards through a comprehensive assessment process administered by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
