(a) K.S.A. 2025 Supp. 75-7601 through 75-7606, and amendments thereto, shall be known and may be cited as the child advocate act. (b) As used in the child advocate act: (1) "Child" means any individual under 18 years of age who: (A) Is in the custody of the secretary for children and families; (B) may be alleged to be a child in need of care as provided in K.S.A. 38-2201 et seq., and amendments thereto; (C) is alleged to be a child in need of care as provided in K.S.A. 38-2201 et seq.; or (D) is currently or was receiving services or treatment from the department of corrections within the previous five years; and (2) "office" means the office of the child advocate and includes the child advocate and staff.
