(a) It shall be unlawful for a person to engage in the independent practice of midwifery without a collaborative practice agreement with a person licensed to practice medicine and surgery, unless such certified nurse-midwife holds a license from the state board of nursing and the board. (b) The provisions of this section shall become effective on January 1, 2017.
