Museum boards shall have the following powers and duties: (a) To make and adopt rules and regulations for the administration of a museum or cultural center; (b) with the approval of the board of county commissioners, to purchase or lease a site or sites and to lease or erect a building or buildings for the use of the museum or cultural center; (c) to acquire by purchase, gift or exchange, books, magazines, papers, printed materials, slides, pictures, films, projection equipment, any and all items of a historical interest, and other material and equipment deemed necessary by the board for the maintenance of a museum or cultural center; (d) to employ a curator or museum or cultural center director and such other employees as the board shall deem necessary and to remove them and to fix their compensation; (e) to receive and accept any gift or donation to a museum or cultural center and administer the same in accordance with any provision thereof; (f) to contract with nonprofit corporations for the operation and maintenance of a museum.
