Duty to inform about veteran services

1. Thepersonnel ofa jailor municipal holding facilityshall inquire whether the prisoner is a veteran, and ifso, shall inform the prisoner, within twenty-four hours of incarceration, that the prisoner may be entitled to a visit from a veteran service officer to determine ifveteran services are required or available. Within seventy-two hours of determining a prisoner is a veteran, the personnel of a jail or municipal holding facility shall provide the prisoner with the contact information for the county commission of veteran affairs of the county where the jailor facility islocated, and the prisoner shall be allowed to contact the county commission of veteran affairs to request a visit from a veteran service officer. 2. As used in this section, “veteran” means a person who was a member of the regular component of the armed forces of the United States, national guard, or reserves.
