1. A person who violates any of the provisions of this chapter for which a penalty is not specifically provided is guilty of a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than two hundred fifty dollars nor more than one thousand five hundred dollars or by imprisonment not to exceed thirty days. 2. Notwithstanding subsection 1, if a provision of chapter 537 is applicable to a retail installment contract and a violation of that provision is subject to a penalty under chapter 537, that penalty shall apply in lieu of a penalty provided in this chapter.
