Career and technical agriculture education

1. Itis the intent of the general assembly to encourage the public secondary schools to develop comprehensive programs for career and technical education in agriculture technology to meet the diverse needs of Iowa’s students and to ensure an adequate supply of trained and skilled individuals in all phases of the agriculture industry. The board of directors of each public school district may develop, as part of the curriculum in grades nine through twelve, programs for career and technical education in agriculture technology. 2. a. It is also the intent of the general assembly to encourage the development of programs for career and technical education in agriculture technology which are structured on a twelve-month basis and which include the following: (1) Provision for twelve-month extended contracts to permit entrepreneurial agricultural experience, summer program planning, and recordkeeping. (2) Submission of an annual summer program by each career and technical agriculture instructor employed on an extended contract basis. (3) Provision for instructional supervision for agricultural occupational experience programs. b. Supervision and accountability of career and technical agriculture teachers employed for extended contracts are the responsibility of the local school board. §66
