Secure online insurance verification system

Effective 1-1-2028.       Sec. 1. (a) The bureau shall maintain a secure online insurance verification system to access information in real time from a driver's insurer for the purpose of determining a driver's compliance with this article. The secure online insurance verification system must transmit requests to insurers for verification of motor vehicle liability insurance policies via web services established by the insurers in compliance with the specifications and standards of the Insurance Industry Committee on Motor Vehicle Administration.       (b) In any circumstance in which the bureau or a law enforcement officer is required by law to determine a driver's compliance with this article, the bureau or the law enforcement officer shall use the secure online insurance verification system.       (c) If the bureau or a law enforcement officer is unable to determine a driver's compliance with this article through the secure online insurance verification system, the bureau shall determine the driver's compliance with this article using another method allowed under this article.
