Establishment and designation of heavy duty and extra heavy duty highways; removal of designation; publication of map

Sec. 1. (a) The Indiana department of transportation may adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 to do the following: (1) Establish and designate a highway as a heavy duty highway. (2) Remove the designation of a highway or part of a highway as a heavy duty highway.       (b) The Indiana department of transportation shall adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 to do the following: (1) Establish and designate a highway as an extra heavy duty highway. (2) Remove the designation of a highway or part of a highway as an extra heavy duty highway.       (c) Rules described in subsection (b)(1) must do the following: (1) Designate the highways listed in section 4 of this chapter (before its expiration) as extra heavy duty highways. (2) Establish maximum size and weight limits for vehicles operated with a special weight permit on an extra heavy duty highway as set forth in section 5 of this chapter (before its expiration).       (d) The Indiana department of transportation shall periodically publish a map showing all highways designated by the department at the time as heavy duty or extra heavy duty highways.
