Identifying vehicle number; violations

Sec. 10. (a) A manufacturer of an off-road vehicle or snowmobile shall stamp an identifying vehicle number into the frame of the off-road vehicle or snowmobile. The vehicle number shall be stamped where the number may be easily seen with a minimum of physical effort. A manufacturer that violates this subsection commits a Class A infraction.       (b) Upon request, a manufacturer shall furnish information as to the location of vehicle numbers on off-road vehicles and snowmobiles the manufacturer produces to a police officer or the bureau. A manufacturer that violates this subsection commits a Class A infraction.       (c) A person may not possess an off-road vehicle or snowmobile with an altered, defaced, or obliterated vehicle number. A person that knowingly or intentionally violates this subsection commits a Class B misdemeanor. [Pre-2016 Revision Citation: 9-18-2.5-12.]
