Indiana Code § 5-16-13-4

"Contractor tier"

Sec. 4. As used in this chapter, "contractor tier" refers collectively to the following classes of contractors on a public works project: (1) "Tier 1 contractor" includes each person that has a contract with the public agency to perform some part of the work on, supply some of the materials for, or supply a service for, a public works project. A person included in this tier is also known as a "prime contractor" or a "general contractor". (2) "Tier 2 contractor" includes each person that has a contract with a tier 1 contractor to perform some part of the work on, supply some of the materials for, or supply a service for, a public works project. A person included in this tier is also known as a "subcontractor". (3) "Tier 3 contractor" includes each person that has a contract with a tier 2 contractor to perform some part of the work on, supply some of the materials for, or supply a service for, a public works project. A person included in this tier is also known as a "sub-subcontractor". (4) "Lower tier contractor" includes each person that has a contract with a tier 3 contractor or lower tier contractor to perform some part of the work on, supply some of the materials for, or supply a service for, a public works project. A person included in this tier is also known as a "lower tier subcontractor".
