PSAP continuing education; recording of annual requirement

Sec. 8. (a) A unit operating a PSAP shall require each public safety telecommunicator to: (1) complete the unit's training program established under section 6 of this chapter: (A) within one (1) year of the date of the program's implementation; or (B) within one (1) year of the public safety telecommunicator's date of hire; and (2) beginning on January 1, 2024, complete twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education training, which may include recertification, in each calendar year beginning after December 31 of the calendar year in which the public safety telecommunicator completes the minimum basic training requirements established under section 6 of this chapter.       (b) A unit shall approve continuing education courses that are eligible to meet the annual requirement in subsection (a)(2).       (c) A unit shall record the completion of an approved continuing education course and count it towards a public safety telecommunicator's satisfaction of the annual requirement in subsection (a)(2). A unit shall also record the name of each public safety telecommunicator who completes the annual requirement in subsection (a)(2) and provide that information to the board as part of the annual data collection described in IC 36-8-16.7-38 .
