Sec. 2.8. (a) The following definitions apply throughout this section: (1) "Animal abuse offense" means one (1) or more of the following: (A) IC 35-46-3-7 (abandonment or neglect of a vertebrate animal). (B) IC 35-46-3-8 (purchase or possession of an animal for use in an animal fighting contest). (C) IC 35-46-3-8.5 (possession of animal fighting paraphernalia). (D) IC 35-46-3-9 (promotion, use of animals, or attendance with animal at animal fighting contest). (E) IC 35-46-3-9.5 (promoting an animal fighting contest). (F) IC 35-46-3-11 (cruelty to a law enforcement animal). (G) IC 35-46-3-11.3 (cruelty to a search and rescue dog). (H) IC 35-46-3-11.5 (cruelty to a service animal). (I) IC 35-46-3-12 (torture or mutilation of a vertebrate animal; killing a domestic animal). (J) IC 35-46-3-12.5 (domestic violence animal cruelty). (K) IC 35-46-3-13 (removal of attack dog's vocal cords; animal cruelty). (L) IC 35-46-3-14 (bestiality). (M) IC 35-46-3-15 (electrocution or decompression of animals). (2) "Companion animal" means a dog or cat that is not a service animal (as defined in IC 35-46-3-11.5 ). (b) As a condition of probation or parole after conviction for an animal abuse offense, the court shall prohibit the convicted person from owning, harboring, or training a companion animal.
