Sec. 3. (a) The clerk of the supreme court shall prepare for public use, under the direction of the supreme court, a systematic index to the court's records and papers on file in the clerk's office. The index must include the following: (1) The title and number of every cause appealed to the supreme court. (2) The county and court from which appealed. (3) The date of filing the appeal in the clerk's office. (4) The date of every decision and how decided. (5) The number of the box or drawer in which the papers in every case can readily be found. The clerk shall also properly clean, arrange, and securely tie the papers in each cause and place them in boxes and drawers when they are provided by the proper authorities for that purpose. (b) The clerk of the supreme court shall also index other papers and records on file in the clerk's office as may be directed by the supreme court.
