Rules; adoption; application

Sec. 2. (a) The fire prevention and building safety commission shall adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 governing fire safety in certain buildings as specified in subsection (b).       (b) Except as provided in subsection (c) and subsection (d), this chapter and the rules adopted under it apply to: (1) all hotels, motels, apartments (in buildings containing three (3) or more apartments), and buildings containing three (3) or more sleeping rooms that rent for a fee; and (2) all buildings occupied after September 14, 1982, as hotels, motels, apartments (in buildings containing three (3) or more apartments), and buildings containing three (3) or more sleeping rooms that rent for a fee.       (c) This chapter does not apply to hotels and motels that have no interior corridors and whose individual rooms have only exterior exits.       (d) This chapter does not apply to an apartment in an apartment building from which apartment there is immediate ground level access to the outside.       (e) Compliance with this chapter and the rules adopted under it does not relieve the owner of a building covered by this chapter from the requirements of any other applicable law, rule, regulation, or ordinance.
