Establishing promotion and tenure review process; post-tenure review process

Sec. 4. (a) In addition to the review described in IC 21-39.5-2 , the board of trustees of each institution shall establish the following: (1) A review process with regard to department level promotions and tenure expectations. (2) A post-tenure review process for tenured faculty members that: (A) measures productivity; and (B) includes, at a minimum, the following: (i) The faculty member's teaching workload. (ii) The total number of students who the faculty member teaches at the graduate and undergraduate level. (iii) The time spent on instructional assignments and the time spent on overseeing graduate students. (iv) The research and creative scholarship productivity of the faculty member.       (b) The process established under subsection (a)(2) must include a requirement that the institution place a faculty member on probation, which may result in dismissal of the faculty member, if productivity requirements established by the institution are not met.       (c) Beginning July 1, 2025, a tenure agreement entered into or renewed between an institution and a faculty member must comply with the post-tenure review process established under subsection (a)(2).       (d) Unless an agreement entered into before July 1, 2025, provides otherwise, the post-tenure review process established by an institution under subsection (a)(2) applies to all tenured faculty members of the institution.
