Cardiopulmonary resuscitation training; guidelines for other training

Sec. 1. (a) Before an initial practitioner license may be issued by the department, the department shall, in a manner prescribed by the state board: (1) ensure a teacher has training in: (A) cardiopulmonary resuscitation that includes a test demonstration on a mannequin; (B) removing a foreign body causing an obstruction in an airway; (C) the Heimlich maneuver; and (D) the use of an automated external defibrillator; (2) ensure a teacher holds a valid certification in each of the procedures described in subdivision (1) issued by: (A) the American Red Cross; (B) the American Heart Association; or (C) a comparable organization or institution approved by the state board; or (3) determine if a teacher has physical limitations that make it impracticable to complete a course or certification described in subdivision (1) or (2).       (b) The department shall establish guidelines for schools regarding the timing, frequency, and method of training concerning the following: (1) The training listed in IC 20-28-5-12.3 . (2) Bleeding control training. (3) Sudden cardiac arrest training, including training on the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
