Sec. 4.5. (a) Each school corporation, charter school, and state accredited nonpublic school shall require each school employee likely to have direct, ongoing contact with children within the scope of the employee's employment to attend or participate in training on child abuse and neglect, including: (1) training on the duty to report suspected child abuse or neglect under IC 31-33-5 ; and (2) training on recognizing possible signs of child abuse or neglect. (b) In addition to training required for an initial license under IC 20-28-5-12.3 , a school employee described in subsection (a) who holds a license or permit from the division of professional standards of the department under this article shall, as a requirement for license or permit renewal, attend or participate in training described in subsection (a) before the school employee's license or permit may be renewed. (c) Each school corporation, charter school, or state accredited nonpublic school shall require each school employee described in subsection (a) whose employment is not dependent on the holding of a license or permit under this article to attend or participate in the training described in subsection (a) at least once every two (2) years. (d) The training required under this section must count toward the requirements for professional development required by the governing body.
