Sec. 9. (a) A storage operator shall pay the department the fees described in subsections (b) and (c) for every metric ton of carbon dioxide injected for storage. (b) Not later than March 1 of each year, a storage operator shall pay to the department a fee of eight cents ($0.08) per metric ton of carbon dioxide injected into the storage facility during the immediately preceding calendar year. The department shall deposit the fee into the carbon dioxide storage facility trust fund established by section 10 of this chapter. (c) Not later than March 1 of each year, a storage operator shall pay to the department a fee that is based on the amount of carbon dioxide injected into the storage facility during the immediately preceding calendar year and that is equal to the product of: (1) the number of metric tons of carbon dioxide injected into the storage facility during the immediately preceding calendar year; multiplied by (2) five cents ($0.05). The department shall deposit the fee into the carbon sequestration project program administrative fund established by section 10.5 of this chapter.
