Sec. 10. Not later than December 31, 2025, the department shall do the following: (1) Perform a comprehensive evaluation of ambient air quality within any nonattainment areas in Indiana. (2) Identify air pollution reduction or regulatory relief strategies that can do the following with respect to the federal Clean Air Act (42 U.S.C. 7401 et seq.), as amended by the federal Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 (P.L.101-549): (A) Ensure that affected areas within Indiana are no longer designated as nonattainment. (B) Result in the eventual phase out of the inspection and maintenance program for light duty vehicles. (C) Meet emissions goals. (D) Appropriately address air pollution contributions to nonattainment areas in Indiana from sources that cannot be addressed by state or local controls, including contributions from international, natural or background, interstate, mobile, and stationary sources as well as exceptional events that are unlikely to recur. (E) Result in the withdrawal of Lake County and Porter County from the Metropolitan Chicago Interstate Air Quality Control Region. In identifying strategies under subdivision (2), the department must coordinate with the United States Environmental Protection Agency. IC 13-17-6 Chapter 6.
