performance of his duties under this act, has power to call on sheriffs and their deputies, and police officers, mayors of cities, city and town marshals and policemen, to assist him in carrying out its provisions; and it is the duty of all such officers to assist in carrying out the provisions of this act when ordered so to do. The Director and any employees of the Department shall have, while engaged in carrying out the provisions of this act, the same powers and protection as other peace officers. It is unlawful for any such officer to fail or refuse to enforce the lawful orders and quarantine of the Department.
