A dental hygienist is authorized to practice under general supervision when: (1) In a private office where the dental hygienist works, a licensed dentist has diagnosed the condition to be treated and determined the procedure to be performed, or has authorized a qualified dental hygienist to perform the prescribed treatment; or (2) In an extended access oral health care program, a supervisory dentist, who is employed or retained by or is a volunteer for the program, has determined the treatment to be provided and has authorized a dental hygienist holding a license with an extended access dental hygiene endorsement to provide the prescribed treatment.
