(1) A physical therapist or physical therapist assistant duly licensed in accordance with this chapter is authorized to practice physical therapy as defined in this chapter. (2) A physical therapist shall refer persons under his or her care to appropriate health care practitioners including, but not limited to, licensed medical physicians, osteopathic physicians, podiatrists, dentists or chiropractic physicians, if the physical therapist has reasonable cause to believe symptoms or conditions are present that require services beyond the scope of practice of physical therapy or when the physical therapist has reasonable cause to believe that physical therapy is contraindicated. (3) Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants shall adhere to the standards of ethics of the physical therapy profession as set forth in the administrative rules adopted by the board.
