PART II. OFFICE OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL [ §132-31] Definitions. As used in this part: "Defensible space" means a natural or human-made area in which material capable of supporting the spread of fire has been treated, cleared, or modified to slow the rate and intensity of advancing wildfires and allowing space for fire suppression operations to occur. "Office" means the office of the state fire marshal. "Structure hardening" means the installation, replacement, or retrofitting of building materials, systems, or assemblies used in the exterior design and construction of existing structures with the primary purpose of reducing risk to structures from wildfire and in compliance with the provisions of the state fire code relating to structure or home hardening.
