(a) The members of the board provided for in subsection (a) of Code Section 43-9-2 shall be so classified by the Governor that the terms of office of two shall expire in one year, two in two years, and one in three years from the date of appointment. Annually the Governor shall appoint, to fill vacancies in the five professional positions on the board, licensed practitioners who possess the qualifications specified in subsection (a) of Code Section 43-9-2 to serve for a period of five years. (b) The Governor shall fill vacancies in the board caused by death or otherwise as soon as practicable. Such appointees shall serve for the unexpired term of the member whose vacancy is being filled. Before appointing the members of the board, the Governor shall satisfy himself that the appointees are of high character and standing and possess the other qualifications prescribed in this chapter.
