of-hospital benefits. — No health insurance policy which provides coverage on a medical, hospital, or surgical expense-incurred basis shall be delivered or issued for delivery in this state unless coverage is provided for treatment performed outside a hospital for any accident or illness as defined in the policy, provided that such treatment would be covered on an inpatient basis and is provided by a health care provider whose services would be covered under the policy if the treatment were performed in a hospital and provided that treatment of the accident or illness is medically necessary and is provided as an alternative to inpatient treatment in a hospital. Reimbursement may be limited to amounts that are reasonable for the treatment or services provided and may be limited by any deductible and coinsurance provisions of the policy.
