(1) Any beneficial, relief, or mutual aid society, however organized, established prior to 1935 and formed by a religious organization, which religious organization qualifies as an exempt religious organization under Title 26, s. 501, of the Internal Revenue Code, and which society is formed for the purpose of aiding members who sustain property losses, and in which the coverages, privileges, and memberships in the society are confined to members of the religious organization, is exempt from the provisions of this code except as otherwise provided in this section, and to that extent any such society shall not be deemed to be an insurer. (2) Any person soliciting, offering, providing, entering into, issuing, or delivering a contract or agreement providing membership in a society pursuant to subsection (1) shall, as to any such contract or agreement, be subject to the provisions of ss. 626.951, 626.9511, 626.9521, 626.9541, 626.9551, 626.9561, 626.9571, 626.9581, 626.9591, 626.9601, and 626.9631.
