Director; qualifications; duties

(1) The director of the Division of Animal Industry shall be appointed by the commissioner and shall serve at the commissioner’s pleasure. The director may be known as the State Veterinarian. (2) No person shall be appointed State Veterinarian who is not a graduate of a recognized and reputable college of veterinary medicine. (3) The director shall be responsible for protecting the animal and livestock interests of the state and shall, under the direction of the commissioner, direct, coordinate, and enforce the applicable provisions of chapters 534 and 585.
