Costs; recovery of illegally exacted; procedure

(1) SUMMARY PROCEEDINGS. — Any person aggrieved by any charge for costs by any officer may have its correctness determined by a court and jury by giving 5 days’ notice to the officer making the charge, stating in the notice the time and place of trial. The judge shall enter the action for trial on the day specified in the notice unless he or she extends the time. (2) VERDICT AND JUDGMENT. — If the jury finds for plaintiff, it shall find the amount which has been improperly collected and the court shall enter judgment for 4 times the amount on which execution shall issue.
