Cancellation or inactivation of license

(1) In the event the licensee desires to cancel her or his license, she or he shall notify the department in writing and return the license to the department within 10 days of the date of cancellation. (2) The department, at the written request of the licensee, may place her or his license in inactive status. A license may remain inactive for a period of 3 years, at the end of which time, if the license has not been renewed, it shall be automatically canceled. If the license expires during the inactive period, the licensee shall be required to pay license fees and, if applicable, show proof of insurance or proof of firearms training before the license can be made active. No late fees shall apply when a license is in inactive status.
