Purpose, policy and intent

It is the declared policy of the State to conserve, protect and encourage the proper utilization of the State's forestland resources. The
forestlands of the State are a renewable resource which provide economic, environmental and social benefits. There is a need to provide
sufficient economic benefit to the owners of forestlands to voluntarily subject forestlands to protective restrictions through the sale of
forestland preservation easements. The establishment of permanent forested areas throughout the State will serve the long term needs of
the forest industry while providing invaluable wildlife and habitat protections and open space benefits to the citizens of the State.
