(a) Notwithstanding any provision of this chapter, each special deputy sheriff, appointed pursuant to section 6-43 on or after July 1, 1999, shall become a member of the state employees retirement system on the date of the appointment to office of such special deputy sheriff and vesting and credited service shall be calculated from the date of such appointment. The provisions of this subsection shall apply to and include each such special deputy sheriff otherwise included under this section who becomes employed as a judicial marshal in accordance with section 6-38i , provided in no event shall an employee receiving payments pursuant to section 5-164a or section 5-192v receive vesting or credited service under this section. (b) Notwithstanding any provision of this chapter, each person employed as a judicial marshal pursuant to section 6-32d or 6-32f , on or after December 1, 2000, shall become a member of the state employees retirement system on the date of such employment and vesting and credited service shall be calculated from the date of such employment, provided in no event shall an employee receiving payments pursuant to section 5-164a or section 5-192v receive vesting or credited service under this section.
