(a) The director of the state-wide organized crime investigative task force shall serve at the pleasure of the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection and shall assume the duties and responsibilities of the position of head of the state-wide organized crime investigative task force. He may employ, and at his pleasure remove, with the approval of the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection, such persons as he deems necessary for the performance of his duties under this chapter, none of whom shall hold any elective public office in the state or any political subdivision thereof. (b) The director of the state-wide organized crime investigative task force may contract for such services as he deems necessary in the performance of his duties. Such contracts shall be in accordance with state regulations.
