Colorado Code § 42-1-216

Destruction of obsolete records

The department is empowered to destroy or
otherwise dispose of all obsolete motor and other vehicle records, number plates, and badges
after the same have been in its possession for twelve calendar months; but all records of
accidents must be preserved by the department for a period of six years.
