Certificate of competency

(1) Certificates of competency shall be required
as a condition of employment for any person working in or about any coal mine in this state in
positions designated by federal law.
(2) Positions for which certification is required in underground coal mines include mine
foreman, fire boss, mine electrician, shot-firer, and hoistman.
(3) Positions for which certification is required in surface coal mines include blaster and
electrician.
(4) The board may designate such other position as may be required by federal law.
