County departments - district departments

(1) Except as provided in
subsection (2) of this section, there is established in each county of the state a county department
of human or social services that consists of a county board of human or social services, a county
director of human or social services, and such additional employees as may be necessary for the
efficient performance of public assistance and welfare activities, including but not limited to
assistance payments, food stamps, and social services.
(2) With the approval of the state department of human services, two or more counties
may jointly establish a district department of human or social services. All duties and
responsibilities set forth in this title 26 for county departments of human or social services also
apply to district departments of human or social services.
