Department to study need for disposal sites and feasibility of alternative technologies

(1) The department shall conduct a study assessing the need for hazardous waste
disposal sites in this state. Such study shall identify the volumes and types of hazardous wastes
generated in this state and the appropriateness and feasibility of treatment and disposal
technologies as alternatives to land disposal. To offset the cost of such study, the department is
authorized to expend a maximum of sixty thousand dollars out of the annual appropriation to the
department from the hazardous waste service fund pursuant to section 25-15-304.
(2) The department may also develop and submit to the general assembly proposed
legislation to encourage the development and utilization of alternative technologies for
hazardous waste management, which may include, by way of example, tax incentives for the
purchase of equipment to implement alternative technologies.
