state personnel system. Any other provision of law to the contrary notwithstanding, the director shall continue, as a benefits option, the existing group life and health benefits of any person employed by a state agency if such person has been or will be brought or assimilated into the state personnel system on or after January 1, 1972, until such time as similar benefits offered by the director to state employees pursuant to this part 6 are equivalent in benefit and economic cost to the benefits held by said person.
