Youth service corps members - compensation - scholarship

(1) The
compensation received by the youth service corps members shall be considered a training and
subsistence allowance.
(2) The provisions of law relating to civil service, hours of work, rate of compensation,
sick leave, unemployment compensation, old age health and survivors' insurance, state
retirement plans, and vacation leave shall not apply to the youth service corps members. The
youth service corps member shall be awarded a scholarship, in an amount not to exceed five
thousand dollars, to a state institution of higher education, private college or university, private
occupational school, or vocational school, of such youth service corps member's choice upon
successful completion of the terms of enrollment in the youth service corps.
