Summer school programs - requirements

(1) A school district or institute
charter school that receives a grant to provide a summer school program pursuant to this part 8 is
subject to the following requirements:
(a) The summer school program shall be research-based, pursuant to the federal "No
Child Left Behind Act of 2001", 20 U.S.C. sec. 6301 et seq., as amended, and shall be delivered
by teachers who are trained in the use of the program.
(b) The school district or institute charter school conducting the summer school program
shall administer, in the subject areas in which the summer school program will focus, a test to
every eligible student participating in the program. The school district or institute charter school
shall administer the test before the program begins and upon completion of the program to
evaluate the progress of each eligible student who participates in the program.
(c) The goal of the summer school program shall be to enable eligible students
participating in the program to progress from scoring at the unsatisfactory proficiency level in
reading, writing, or mathematics, as applicable, to scoring at the proficient level in reading,
writing, or mathematics, as applicable.
