(1) There is hereby
established the Colorado school awards program, referred to in this part 6 as the "program", to be
administered by the department. The state board shall promulgate rules for the administration of
this part 6 and the program. The rules shall include but need not be limited to procedures for
transmitting the financial awards to public schools of school districts and institute charter
schools that demonstrate outstanding performance.
(2) In addition to the monetary awards made and distributed pursuant to sections 22-11-
602, 22-11-603, 22-11-603.5, and 22-11-605, the state board may annually apply moneys from
the school awards program fund created in section 22-11-605 to provide tangible items of
recognition, such as banners or trophies, to schools that are identified as eligible to receive the
John Irwin schools of excellence awards, the governor's distinguished improvement awards, the
centers of excellence awards, and the academic growth awards created in section 22-11-603.7.
