Colorado Code § 17-26-116

Commitment - copy to sheriff - return endorsed

When a prisoner is
committed to any jail by virtue of any process which the sheriff is required to return to the court
from which it issued, it is the duty of the court, clerk, or officer issuing such process to issue the
same in duplicate, and the sheriff shall keep one copy of the same, together with a copy of his
return thereto, endorsed thereon, which duplicate copy of such process retained by the sheriff
shall be sufficient prima facie authority to retain such prisoner in custody.
