Temporary judicial duties. Whenever the chief justice of the supreme

court deems assignment of a judge necessary to the prompt disposition of judicial business, the
chief justice may assign any judge of the court of appeals, or any retired judge of the court of
appeals who consents, to temporarily perform judicial duties in any court of record. For each day
of such temporary service a retired judge shall receive compensation as provided by law.
