Podiatric surgery

(1) Surgical procedures on the ankle below the level of
the dermis may be performed by a podiatrist licensed before July 1, 2010, in this state who:
(a) Is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery or its successor organization;
(b) Is performing surgery under the direct supervision of a licensed podiatrist certified
by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery or its successor organization; except that, if the
supervising podiatrist is licensed on or after July 1, 2010, the supervising podiatrist shall be
certified in reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery or foot and ankle surgery by the American
Board of Podiatric Surgery or its successor organization; or
(c) Is performing surgery under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice
medicine and certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery or its successor
organization or by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery or its successor
organization.
(2) Surgical procedures on the ankle below the level of the dermis may be performed by
a podiatrist licensed on or after July 1, 2010, in this state who:
(a) Is certified in reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery or foot and ankle surgery by the
American Board of Podiatric Surgery or its successor organization;
(b) Is performing surgery under the direct supervision of a licensed podiatrist certified
by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery or its successor organization; except that, if the
supervising podiatrist is licensed on or after July 1, 2010, the supervising podiatrist shall be
certified in reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery or foot and ankle surgery by the American
Board of Podiatric Surgery or its successor organization;
(c) Is performing surgery under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice
medicine and certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery or its successor
organization or by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery or its successor
organization; or
(d) Has completed a three-year surgical residency approved by the board.
