The Director of Corrections may authorize the temporary removal from the California Rehabilitation Center or any of its branches under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections of any person confined therein. The director may require that such temporary removal be under custody. Unless the person is removed for medical treatment, the removal shall not be for a period longer than three days. The director may require the person to reimburse the state, in whole or in part, for expenses incurred by the state in connection with such temporary removal other than for medical treatment. Under specific regulations established by the director for the selection of confined persons, the director may authorize assignment to conservation camp programs.
