(a) As a condition of a pharmacy’s participation in the Medi-Cal program, the pharmacy shall have in stock and regularly dispense prescription drugs. (b) For purposes of this section, “prescription drugs” means any drug unsafe for self use by a person, and includes either of the following: (1) Any drug that bears the legend: “R x Only” or “Caution: federal law prohibits dispensing without prescription” or words of similar import. (2) Any other drug that by federal or state law can be lawfully dispensed by the prescription of a licensed physician and surgeon.
