(a) The system of plane coordinates that has been established by the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey for defining and stating the positions or locations of points on the surface of the earth within the State of California is based on the North American Datum of 1927 and is identified as the âCalifornia Coordinate System.â After January 1, 1987, this system shall be known as the âCalifornia Coordinate System of 1927.â (b) The system of plane coordinates which has been established by the National Geodetic Survey for defining and stating the positions or locations of points on the surface of the earth within the State of California and which is based on the North American Datum of 1983 shall be known as the âCalifornia Coordinate System of 1983.â (c) As used in this chapter: (1) âNAD27â means the North American Datum of 1927. (2) âCCS27â means the California Coordinate System of 1927. (3) âNAD83â means the North American Datum of 1983. (4) âCCS83â means the California Coordinate System of 1983. (5) âUSC&GSâ means the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey. (6) âNGSâ means the National Geodetic Survey or its successor. (7) âFGCSâ means the Federal Geodetic Control Subcommittee or its successor. (8) âNATRF2022â means the North American Terrestrial Reference Frame of 2022. (9) âPATRF2022â means the Pacific Terrestrial Reference Frame of 2022. (10) âCCS2022â means the California Coordinate System of 2022. (11) âCSRCâ means the California Spatial Reference Center or its successor. (12) âCSRNâ means the California Spatial Reference Network, as defined by Chapter 3 (commencing with Section 8850), âGeodetic Datums and the California Spatial Reference Network.â (13) âGPSâ means Global Positioning System and includes other, similar space-based systems. (14) âFGDCâ means the Federal Geographic Data Committee or its successor. (15) âNSRSâ means the National Spatial Reference System. (d) The California portion of the system of plane coordinates defined as the State Plane Coordinates System of 2022 (SPCS2022) as established by NGS and maintained by either NGS or CSRC shall be known as the âCalifornia Coordinate System of 2022.â (e) The use of the term âState Plane Coordinatesâ refers only to CCS27, CCS83, and CCS2022 coordinates.
