Any person who destroys, or who attempts to destroy, the carcass of any dead animal, or the offal from any slaughter pen, corral, or butcher shop by fire within one-fourth of a mile of any city, town, or village, except in a crematory whose construction and operation are satisfactory to the board of health of the city or the health officer of the town, is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than one year or by fine of not more than one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment.
